Pretty Green is the New White
Happy Earth Day!
A friend of mine writes a blog called Pretty Green Girl. No, she’s not a vain socialite who likes to talk about how good-looking she is. Rather, she’s an upbeat, beautiful girl who believes that everyone would be better off being “pretty green” rather than not being green at all. For example, she unplugs her appliances after using them, but still watches reality television. She takes her lunch to work in reusable containers, but sometimes has to buy packaged (albeit organic) food.
In the Wedding World, green seems to be the new white. And yes, I totally applaud all the brides and grooms who are looking for ways to make their events more sustainable and earth-friendly. But there is such a thing as going too far…
The Green: Wearing a pre-owned wedding dress.
The FAIL: Wearing a pre-owned wedding dress that was worn at a backyard BBQ the night before.
The Green: Emailing your Save the Date to avoid wasting paper.
The FAIL: Accidentally emailing your Save the Date to the ex-boyfriend you left for your current fiancé.
The Green: Asking your guests to give donations to local charities as an alternative to buying you a bunch of packaged presents.
The FAIL: Asking your guests to give donations to local charities where all members are required to wear white hooded robes.
The Green: Choosing a wedding location that is close enough to a local hotel so that guests can walk to the ceremony and reception.
The FAIL: Choosing a wedding location that is close enough to a strip joint so that the bride can make a few bucks between the ceremony and the reception.
The Green: Going on an eco-tourism honeymoon.
The FAIL: Going on an eco-tourism honeymoon after riding to the airport in a Hummer limo.
The Green: Reusing the flowers from your ceremony for your reception.
The FAIL: Reusing the flowers from your grandmother’s funeral for your reception.
The Green: Giving your guests your homegrown small green plants as favors.

Great concept this whole “pretty green” thing. But I beg to differ: it’s just plain smart to give away your homegrown children. They’ll just mess up your new marriage. Kidding! I particularly liked the hummer limo one. Thanks for another clever post!
Thanks for the shout-out! I loved the Hummer limo one, too, cause I could TOTALLY see people actually doing that! I’ve actually been in a SUV limo, believe it or not. Ick!
Oh and I could totally see accidentally emailing a STD (hahaha that always cracks me up) to the wrong person, too. Whoops!
HAHAHAHAHA! Totally laughed at the charity fail.
Unfortunately, I was “pretty not green” yesterday. I drove, bought disposable, fast-fashion at Target, and maybe even littered…I can’t quite remember.
Hey, you should try and get a car company to give you a car that runs on used cooking oil for your road trip. The smell of French Fries in the morning will be so romantic…
I’m not very green- but I would buy a dress that had been used before. Those dresses are insanely expensive.
