wedding road trip

14,000 miles, 200 friends, two lives, one big decision

Day 16: Saturday in Delray

guests of wedding road trip in delray beach, floridaAfter our relaxing vacation night in Ft Lauderdale, we navigated the live-action arcade game that is I-95 to Delray Beach. Besides our new addiction to sand and sun, we were there to visit Bryon, an old friend of Jaime’s from Ventura, and his girlfriend Birdie.

Brian runs a health food business while Birdie is a construction manager for a large corporation. Besides these hobbies, they own two very small dogs (like, the height of my ankle), which occupied themselves by licking my toes. Everyone was happy.

In talking with them, it became clear that they are the epitome of an independent couple - they each have their own houses and work intense jobs that are basically the focus of their lives. That focus is so complete that they each live ten minutes from a gorgeous beach that they rarely visit. There is something appealing about being so individually driven, yet I found myself wondering if they make time to just enjoy each other’s company. After all, I can’t imagine what it would be like if Jaime was dating the male version of herself- the words “free time” wouldn’t even exist.

Turns out that I didn’t need to worry. Bryon and Birdie had just gotten back from a weekend in New Orleans, where Bryon had the unfortunate experience of watching an extra-large woman strip down to her thong and ride a mechanical bull.

Turns out that I really didn’t need to worry. Bryon and Birdie met during a party weekend in Key West, in which Birdie was propositioned for a foursome by a woman with breasts that could easily float a small country.

Clearly, Jaime and I have not been using our weekends to their full advantage.

  1. As it turns out, once the women left, Key West sank into the ocean!
