wedding road trip

14,000 miles, 200 friends, two lives, one big decision

Day 18: Detour!

chris is not looking at the roadChris and I left Orlando this morning with the intention of driving up to Atlanta to see one of Chris’s grad school friends. When we didn’t hear back from the guy, we figured we’d still find a local joint in Buckhead and cruise to a cool restaurant before hauling up to Louisville to see the Ritchays on Tuesday.

As we were driving, we kept thinking about our friend Jessica’s advice that we should definitely swing through Savannah instead of Atlanta. Being the freewheeling wild and crazy kids that we are (cough), we rerouted on the fly and drove out to Savannah, Georgia instead.

No offense to the lovely residents of Savannah, but we just weren’t feeling it. Maybe it was the Outback Steakhouse we saw as we turned on to the main drag. Maybe it was the guy who tossed an entire cigarette and lighter out his car window as we puttered down Bay St. Or maybe it was this description we read on TripAdvisor: “Go to Charleston to walk, walk, walk. Go to Savannah to eat, eat, eat.”

Given the amount of food and alcohol we’ve consumed over the past eighteen days, we chose the former.

P.S. I’d post pictures of our drive to Charleston, but someone (ahem, Chris) decided to leave the camera in the trunk, where it’s super useful on gorgeous drives up the coast.
